Too Good To Sweep Under The Carpet

When a business has a complex labelling problem, they tend to cycle between substandard solutions and get caught in limbo with temporary labelling for way too long. That just wasn’t an option for the launch of Carpet World’s company-branded products.

Labelling is a particularly complicated undertaking for a carpet retailer. With a wide range of products in store and the inherent price fluctuations that exist in this market, there is a need for reusable labels for display stands and technically complex adhesive solutions to ensure labels stick to product samples of all types of carpet fibres.


As Carpet World approached the launch of their range of company-branded products, they wanted to rethink their approach to labelling to ensure their in-store experience communicated the level of quality that matches the performance of their products.
 

That's where Durolenz came in. ​​

The Product Sample Challenge

Carpet retailers provide customers with samples that they can take home and return at a later date. However, when prospective buyers visit multiple retailers and take a few samples from each, it's hard for a brand to stand out, and it also leads to samples not being returned to the correct store.
 

To solve this problem, Carpet World planned to add labels to the front of the samples of their company-branded products. However, despite needing an eye-catching and tactile domed label, they also needed to find a way to get the labels to stick to all the various types of carpet. 

For example, nylon is a synthetic fibre and provides more surface area for the adhesive to bond. In contrast, the natural lanolin oil secreted by sheep and wool's significantly lower surface energy renders many of the adhesive options that worked for nylon unsuitable for wool.


Durolenz established the required material bonding agent for this complex use case and ensured that Carpet World's domed labels worked across the full product range. 

The Display Wall Challenge

Carpet World stores have Product Display Walls filled with carpet rolls, which are identified using hang tag cards affixed with safety pins. These cards are printed in bulk as blank templates, with the specific product information either handwritten or added with a sticker label. 
 

These hang tags provided flexibility for relocating carpet rolls across the display wall and were cost-effective enough for disposability. However, they didn’t project the professional image that Carpet World desired. Furthermore, Carpet World had digital and augmented reality solutions in the marketing roadmap, which called for their labels to connect in-store experiences with online solutions. 
 

Durolenz developed re-usable labels using Phototex, which elevate the premium feel beyond a magnetised label while providing the same level of "peel-and-stick' utility. By producing the labels with QR codes, Carpet World could update the product information digitally and add additional features without re-producing the labels.

The Foyer Stand Challenge

Framed Foyer Stands are used in-store to display product and price information of selected items. Given that these items regularly change, there is a need for a display solution that balances professional visual communication with the flexibility of easy-to-update information.
 

Durolenz identified that the most effective solution was not through labelling but a stencilled, piano black foyer stand cover that allowed printed product sheets to be inserted to display the required information. 
 

This solution allowed each Carpet World store to print the product sheets in-store and quickly and easily change their offers.
